Methodology & Data Source
Gold Price Pakistan is designed as a reference tool, not a dealer quotation. The goal is to show where the numbers come from, how different purities and weights are calculated, when the data was checked, and what happens if the upstream source is temporarily unavailable.
1. Primary city-rate source
Our live city feed uses the Sarafa.pk city gold-rate API. The Worker requests city-level gold data for the Pakistani cities shown on this website. The source value used in our calculation is the city’s 24K price per tola in Pakistani rupees (PKR). We describe these values as city reference rates; we do not label them as a government price or as a guaranteed retail quotation.
2. Purity calculation
The Worker starts from the source 24K/tola value and derives the other purities by the standard karat fraction:
Purity price = 24K price × (karat ÷ 24)
| Purity | Factor used |
|---|---|
| 24K | 24 / 24 = 1.0000 |
| 22K | 22 / 24 ≈ 0.9167 |
| 21K | 21 / 24 = 0.8750 |
| 18K | 18 / 24 = 0.7500 |
This calculation is mechanical. We do not add a hidden premium or an invented city adjustment to the derived purities.
3. Weight conversion
Pakistan commonly quotes gold per tola, while many users also compare 10-gram and 1-gram values. We use 1 tola = 11.6638038 grams. After the purity calculation, the tola value is converted to grams. Per-tola values are rounded to the nearest rupee; the displayed 10-gram and 1-gram reference values are rounded to the nearest Rs 100 for a clean, consistent presentation. Intermediate calculations retain full precision before display rounding.
4. Date, time and refresh handling
The Cloudflare Worker checks the Sarafa city feed on a scheduled cycle of approximately five minutes. Because the upstream API does not provide a source timestamp in the current response contract, our interface labels the Worker time as “Last checked”, not as an exchange closing time. Times are displayed in Pakistan Standard Time (PKT). On a non-trading day the checked time can change even when the underlying reference price is unchanged.
5. Previous-day change
The “Vs Previous Day” field is calculated only from snapshots actually stored by our Worker. At the Pakistan calendar-day rollover, the final observed snapshot from the earlier day is retained. The current city’s per-tola value is compared with that stored prior-day value. If the website has not yet collected a genuine prior-day snapshot, the page displays “Collecting baseline” instead of fabricating an increase or decrease.
6. Outages and last-good data
If the Sarafa API is temporarily unavailable, the Worker does not generate a replacement price. It serves the last successful cached snapshot, marks the response as stale, and the page labels it as a last-known reference. If no Worker cache exists, the static site contains a dated last-known fallback reference so the page remains usable without pretending that the value is live.
7. National benchmark cross-checks
Pakistan-wide gold figures reported by financial media can use a different benchmark from a city-rate feed. For example, financial publications commonly report rates attributed to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA). Those national figures may not exactly match a Sarafa.pk city reference on the same date. We keep the two concepts separate rather than silently mixing one source into another. When we use a national benchmark in an article, the article should identify the source and date clearly.
8. Taxes, duties and making charges
The displayed gold reference rate excludes making charges and does not automatically add a fixed tax or duty percentage. Rules and tariffs can change, and the amount applied to a real transaction depends on the transaction and seller. Users should check the jeweller’s invoice and current government rules. Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) publishes the prevailing customs tariff documentation, including the 2026–27 tariff.
